What was the impact of the Roman invasion on Britain?

Julius Caesar invaded Britain in 55 BC but it would be almost 100 years before the full might of the Roman army, led by Emperor Claudius, landed on the beaches in Kent and quickly established control over the tribes of present day south-eastern England.

Despite some resistance and a few bloody revolts the Romans ruled for the next 400 years playing an important part in British history.

But what was the impact upon Britain of four centuries of Roman rule? And what evidence of this impact remains today? Did the Romans change Britain or was their legacy largely erased by later continental invaders?

The mystery video sets up specific investigations for you to explore in truly interactive ways through map analysis, interactive timelines, empathy games, picture analysis, archaeological sites, dig simulations, museum objects and reflection activities.

The activities challenge you to sift through the evidence of time, make decisions, and solve historical mysteries for yourselves!
